'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith continues battle with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the thrilling closing stages of his team's stunning fightback win against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match ended with Galbraith picking up a supporter's spectacles following the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful effort from outside the box, and the defender quickly slammed home the loose ball before sprinting toward the home end to celebrate, with fans swarming the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

This sealed an unbelievable comeback given Swansea had trailed 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. During the celebrations, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan shouting out and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

That win earned a next round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with the London side in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the woodwork and the opposition keeper. It seems unfair that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've awarded it to him for attempting the shot from that distance," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right wing-back after they changed formation. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the opposition who praised the way his former team played positively.

City's Quality

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," he explains. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they are adept at dictate and slow down a game. You can believe you're all right and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball past your midfield without you even noticing. You have to be focused at all times of the game. It takes a strong mentality and attention just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

The Welsh side pushed to sign Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a fans' favourite across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has rapidly replicated that in his new home. At Orient he joined forces once more with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in senior football on loan at a League One side from Old Trafford. Then came a temporary move at fourth-tier Salford City, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into senior level. I think many athletes would say youth team games is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without real physicality. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that maturation for both domestically and internationally, performing well for his national side, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has featured in the past five games, including two matches games against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his knack for a decisive through ball.

Humble Beginnings

This marks quite the ride for the youngster from the local area in the Belfast suburb, just outside Belfast, who used to see his parent, the elder Galbraith, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Manchester United Experience

His only game for Manchester United came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to Astana, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was closed owing to conditions of -15C. "This represented a extended travel and it was cold out there," he comments, grinning. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads trained together, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged a teenager? "This turned out fairly simple, because I reached the point where I knew I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the years at the club but it reached a stage where I believed I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly working my way back up."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed fun bus, a small coach driven by club employees, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from training and matches.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, Ronald, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's pleasant to spend time with the guys but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and driving. Franco is known for his humor; he's constantly causing mischief."

Public Engagement

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on London's Central line after starting his journey at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
